Buy in Bulk

Buy in Bulk and Save Big Money

If you're in any type of food business buying in bulk just makes sense. Wholesale purchasing works for many businesses but is especially critical for the food industry.

Have you ever been to Sam's Club or maybe Costco on occasion? These are prime places where many of us go to buy in bulk. The idea of buying in large quantities to save money isn't new. The big benefit of bulk purchasing however is the time issue involved. Imagine not having to go to the store for weekly supplies.

The negative to bulk purchases however is that you somewhere to store a million rolls of toilet paper until it's needed.

One of the big claimed benefits is not really as it seems. This supposed benefit is that it's cheaper. The problem with this is that this claim doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Fact is, from a price standpoint, you can get many items as cheap or cheaper by watching sales at the local supermarkets.

The reason for this is that the stores and the manufacturers have promoted large = cheaper for so long that we just assume it's a fact. Reality however is that some manufacturers have now taken to charging more per ounce or unit count for larger packages simply because you the consumer have been conditioned to think that larger quantities = cheaper price.

The truth is that the consumer should expect a lower price if buying in bulk if only because the cost of individual packaging is less. Buying a 50 pound box or laundry detergent is cheaper in packaging than 10 - 5 pound boxes.

I recall back in the 90s when I first spotted a Sam's store. This was indeed a place where anyone could go and buy in bulk. Now, I have to admit, there are specific products that I prefer to buy in bulk. Come on, who wants to run to the local grocery store every week for toilet paper and paper towels? It's so much easier to buy a gargantuan pack of these items at the local Costco. One thing that you should know about if you've never ventured out to one of these superstores before is the membership.

You do in fact need to get a membership card, and yes there is a reasonable annual fee involved. I suggest to anyone who has even considered buying in bulk, to check out the store and what it has to offer before dismissing the concept altogether.

When you buy in bulk at Sam's or Costco, you are not limited to tissues and fruit drinks. These stores are basically like supermarkets on steroids. That's why so many people love them.

You can step inside and purchase a huge box of breakfast bars or maybe a large quantity of cheese if you desire. Most food items are easily found in these bulk stores.

Anyway, if you do not buy in bulk yet, you may want to consider it, even if it's only for the minor household items. The Internet is also a great place to search if you want to buy in bulk from home. Virtually anything your heart desires can be found in cyberspace.

You can find it all from bulk coffee beans to bulk chocolates. The possibilities are endless. Save some cash today, and buy in bulk. It's usually great for business....but be sure to check the prices first.
